Nursing Careers at SNHH

Nursing at SNHH is guided by a unique professional practice model which reflects the components of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet® standards. Nurses are encouraged to practice autonomously within a collaborative health care system which is designed to provide the highest quality of evidenced based patient and family centered care.

We pride ourselves on the high nursing satisfaction scores and the low vacancy and turnover rates of our nursing staff. Much of the success is attributable to a robust shared governance environment, a comprehensive professional development program and a widespread culture of reward and recognition.

professional development

Nurses at SNHH, are empowered to make the decisions at the bedside necessary to promote patient comfort, enhance safety, and improve the environment of care delivery.

Nursing Quality

Nurses at The Medical Center are essential contributors to empirical quality outcomes. Staff perceptions about safety and quality are measured using validated national surveys like the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Patient Safety Survey and the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) Environment of Care Survey. Internal audits and processes as well as external benchmarks are used to measure a majority of nurse-sensitive quality measures.

Shared Governance

Nursing shared governance at SNHH provides an opportunity for nurses to participate in decision making with regard to nursing practice. The shared governance structure provides a venue for direct care nurses to provide input, offer recommendations and stimulate discussion of patient care and work environment issues or improvements.

Nurse Recognition Strategies

SNHH nurses continue to make an impact on the quality of care, nurse education and best practices. Recognition is a component of the Professional Practice Model, and we include strategies such as Nurse’s Day Celebration, Nurse of the Year Award, Nominations for Regional and National Awards and more.
